Somitra Saxena
Somitra Saxena received his Bachelor of Technology (Civil Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras,
in 1990. He earned his Master of Science (Transportation Engineering) at the University
of California, Davis. While pursuing his M.S. at UC Davis, he worked on the impact of
telecommunications on travel behavior and the evaluation of spatial, air quality and
travel impacts of telecommuting, resulting in his thesis titled " Spatial Analysis of
Telecommuter's Activity Space". He has also co-authored the paper, "Effectiveness of
Telecommuting as a Transportation Control Measure" published in the Proceedings of the ASCE Urban Transportation
Division National Conference on Transportation Planning and Air Quality in 1991.
Somitra is currently employed with GIS/Trans. His current assignments and interests include
micro-computer/GIS applications in transportation engineering, transportation modeling,
multi-modal planning, TDM and non-motorized transportation planning.
