Elizabeth A. Raney

Elizabeth Raney is a master's student in Civil and Environmental Engineering with the Institute of Transportation Studies here at the University of California, Davis. She has been working with her advisor Prof. Patricia Mokhtarian and Prof. Ilan Salomon on the second and third papers in a series on behavioral responses to congestion. The papers are empirical studies that identify some of the dimensions and dynamics of the decision-making process of individuals faced with a congested commute.

For her thesis she is performing a market segmentation of home-based telecommuters who exhibit strong or weak characteristics for a number of drives (work, family, travel, leisure, ideology) and constraints (manager approval, lack of equipment, etc.). She is also working on the RABO Telecommuting Centers Project and will soon be starting a new project related to the air quality impacts of transportation.

She received her Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Oregon State University and has five years of work experience in private industry in environmental engineering and pollution prevention at the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site. Her personal interests include playing softball and volleyball, weaving, and travelling.
