Dennis has been employed by the Institute of Transportation Studies since June 1993. He has worked on a variety of projects including the telecenters project where he co-authored the Status Tracking Report for CALTRANS with S. A. Henderson and Prof. P. Mokhtarian, and prepared an executive summary of the report "Telecommuting Centers and Related Concepts: A Review of Practice". He has also contributed his efforts in designing data collection instruments for the Telecenters Longitudinal Study as well as the Davis Community Network project.
His primary contribution to transportation research is in the area of emissions modeling and air quality analysis. He has worked to develop a methodology for analyzing the emissions impacts of telecommuting using data from travel diaries as input to the California Air Resources Board's emissions models EMFAC7F and BURDEN7F. Several reports and papers have resulted from this research including a technical journal paper titled "Modeling the Emissions Impacts of Telecommuting for the Puget Sound Demonstration Project". This paper was co-authored with B. E. Koenig and Prof. P. Mokhtarian, and has been published in the Journal of the Air and Waste Management Association. Dennis co-presented the findings from this research with B. E. Koenig at the Transportation Research Board's Annual Meeting in January 1995.
