CORONADO
Coronado Telecenter

This site is under the direction of the Coronado Transportation Management Association (TMA). This center receives financial support from Coronado Bay Bridge toll funds.

Open since October 1993, the telecenter occupies 725 square feet of a one-story building shared with the administrative offices of the TMA, the Chamber of Commerce, and Coronado Mainstreet. It comprises four cubicle workstations, a conference room, a restroom, a site administrator's office, and a kitchen area. A locking drawer is assigned to each user for secured storage. The center provides two 486 personal computers with modems, and a third PC is provided by a telecommuter for his exclusive use.

As stated in earlier reports, past recruitment efforts have been targeted to the City and County of San Diego, in addition to the Navy and federal government. In addition to continuing these efforts, developers are testing new marketing ideas. One such idea is the production of a newsletter that would disseminate information about all of the TMA's projects, including the telecenter. The TMA has also formed a partnership with Coronado High School students and the local cable television company to produce and broadcast four public service announcements about various TMA projects. The second of these four announcements focuses on the telecenter and has been airing on the local cable station for several weeks.

Developers are completing plans to participate in two upcoming events: the San Diego Computer Expo and Telecommute America. San Diego telecenter administrators, including those at Coronado, are designing a booth for the computer expo that will display information about all of the telecenters and about Telecommute America activities. The Coronado site administrator is planning events for the week of Telecommute America, including a highly publicized open house for Telecenter Day on October 27, 1995.

The telecenter is located in downtown Coronado. Nearby amenities include banks, grocers, health clubs, cleaners, schools, the post office, a photo studio, restaurants, drug stores, and auto repair stations.

Four telecommuters currently use the Coronado Telecenter. Over the last several weeks, the center has been used an average of four person-days per week.
