Ventura County
The two sites described below are located on the Moorpark and Ventura Community Colleges campuses. Under the direction of the Ventura Community Colleges District, these sites are being developed by the individual colleges to incorporate distance learning and administrative telemeetings programs. Both the Moorpark Community College and the Ventura Community College site are in the last stages of build-out, and are combining efforts to recruit participants into the centers as quickly as possible. Recruitment efforts are concentrated on the student population who are employed; the marketing strategy is to reach the employers of those students to secure their participation. Marketing/recruitment activities include distribution of a single-page questionnaire to students; direct mailing to employers in the community; and telemarketing.
Ventura County / Moorpark Community College - An unused computer lab on the second floor of the college library has been secured for this center, which consists of one main room and a smaller conference room. The smaller conference room is reserved for distance learning and telemeetings; the main room houses the telecommuting center and a niche for the site administrator's office. In the main room, five cubicle workstations have been installed with personal computers and phone lines. The college plans to install a local area network linking the computers within the lab and T-1 communication linking to other colleges for the distance learning and administrative telemeeting components. The entire center comprises approximately 900 square feet.
Ventura County / Ventura Community College - The college has leased a trailer for this site. Build-out involves adding walls and doors to separate conferencing and distance learning from the telecommuting component. As with the Moorpark site, this center is planned to have five workstations.
