This worksheet will help you determine the different
responsibilities that make up the telecommuter's job. For a
detailed description of how to determine what job
responsibilities are, read the "Objectives"
section of the Telemanager Manual.
Most jobs can be divided into the following three categories:
the kind of knowledge required to do the job, the skills required
to complete the job, and the employee traits needed to be
successful on the job. Once you and the telecommuter determine
what responsibilities fall into each category, it is easy to
establish objectives for the telecommuter's job.
Directions for completing this exercise:
- Obtain a copy of the job description for the telecommuter's
job.
- If a job description for the telecommuter's job does not
exist, have the telecommuter begin writing all of the
responsibilities for his/her job. Then divide the
responsibilities according to the categories on the Job Responsibilities Worksheet. (Refer to
the completed worksheet example.)
- If there is a job description for the telecommuter's job,
begin dividing the responsibilities according to the categories
on the Job Responsibilities Worksheet. (Refer to the completed worksheet example.)
- Photocopy enough copies of the worksheet to complete this
exercise. Fill in the worksheet with the telecommuter's job
responsibilities.
- If the telecommuter has completed a worksheet for his/her
job responsibilities, compare the two. If not, share your
worksheet with your telecommuter and request input.
- Based on the telecommuter's input and the worksheet you
completed, you should have a near complete list of
responsibilities to begin working on the objectives worksheet.
Keep this exercise simple. Keep the responsibilities list
broad. You will be more specific when you develop objectives for
the telecommuter's job.
This exercise has been developed as a growing and learning
experience. Remember, this process is being established to
document the telecommuter's success. The process is flexible and
it can be updated.
The following instructions explain how to complete this
exercise alone, with your telecommuter, or with your telecommuter in a training
class:
If you are a telemanager reviewing
this as a self-guided manual
- Read the "Objectives" section in
this manual. If you can attend a training class, do so.
- Complete the exercise according to the above directions.
- Obtain input from the telecommuter.
- You are ready to begin working on objectives exercises.
If you and your telecommuter
are reviewing the self-guided manuals
- Read the "Objectives" section in the Telecommuter and Telemanager manuals. If you can attend a
training class, do so.
- Complete the exercise according to the above directions.

objectives and deliverables document.
- You are ready to begin working on the objectives exercises.

directions. When you return to your office, read the "Objectives" section in the
