Strategies for Successful Telecommuting:

A Telecommuter's Manual

Introduction

Dear Telecommuter,

Congratulations on being selected as a telecommuter! You are probably looking forward to the day that you will start working at the Telecenter and can avoid the commute to the traditional office. This manual will help you get organized, and develop good habits for working at a Telecenter.

The first section of this manual provides you with overall guidelines and suggestions for working at the Telecenter. The second section of this manual includes hands-on exercises that will prepare you for telecommuting. The third section of this manual includes questions you may want to ask your telemanager and the Telecenter manager prior to telecommuting. The fourth section is a telecommuter's assignment/checklist that can be filled out jointly by you and your telemanager and formalizes the telecommuting arrangement.

The key to successful telecommuting lies in developing measurable objectives, taking the time to organize your work, communicating with your supervisors and peers, and in being flexible to resolve any potential problems. In taking the time to prepare for this exercise by reading and completing this manual, you will avoid many of the potential pitfalls of first time telecommuters. Your telemanager can help you in this process by reading and completing the Telemanager Manual.

As your Telecenter Manager, I'm also available to help make the Telecenter as productive and convenient as possible.

Happy Telecommuting!

Your Telecenter Manager
