Exercise #3
Review

This worksheet will help you determine whether or not you met your specified objectives and deliverables. For a detailed description of how to apply the review process, read the "Objectives" section of the Telecommuter Manual.

Reviewing what has been accomplished is the last step in the managing by objectives process. If you do not include a review step in the managing by objective process, you will never know if you have been successful. This last step enables you to determine "what has been done" or if the end result has been achieved. The review step should be completed shortly after the deadline for the deliverables. A review session between an employee and a supervisor may include a discussion of new objectives and deliverables. If you are working with a weekly list of objectives and deliverables, you will probably review your progress at the end of the week. If you are working with objectives on a monthly basis, then the end of the month is usually an appropriate time to review your accomplishments. No matter how busy you are, do not forget the review step; you deserve a big pat on the back when you have met your objectives!

Directions for completing this exercise:

  1. To complete the form, fill in your objectives and deliverables.
  2. Next, determine whether you met the objectives and deliverables. Check the appropriate box for indicating whether you met the objective or not.
  3. You may want to add another category in the rating section for "exceeded expectations".
  4. Use the comments section to explain any extenuating circumstances. If there were extenuating circumstances which kept you from accomplishing an objective, note the details of what circumstance in the comments section.
  5. If an objective is not accomplished, carry it forward to the next rating period.

Keep this exercise simple. If you have examples of outstanding efforts that you have accomplished, attach them and refer to your attachments in the comments section of the review worksheet.

Use the review process to measure your accomplishments and shortcomings. This process will help you identify areas for improvement. It is being established to document your success and help you understand what you need to do to be successful.
