NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION: INTEGRATIVE GRADUATE EDUCATION & RESEARCH TRAINING GRANT

The primary goal of the Integrative Graduate Education & Research Training (IGERT) Program, funded by the National Science Foundation, is to produce "a cadre of broadly prepared PhDs with multidisciplinary backgrounds and the technical, professional, and personal skills essential to addressing the varied career demands of the future."

In October 1998, one of these prestigious and highly competitive five-year multi-million dollar grants was awarded to the graduate transportation program at UC Davis - the only transportation program to be funded in the initial IGERT cycle. This award is welcome recognition of the value of UC Davis' unique multidisciplinary approach to graduate transportation studies.

Several elements of the IGERT award will benefit all transportation students on campus:

  • state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and computers;
  • innovative course offerings;
  • internships with private and public sector organizations;
  • UC Davis-hosted conferences; and
  • distinguished speaker seminars.

In addition, because of the IGERT award,

  • ITS-Davis can offer three years of guaranteed financial support to highly qualified domestic PhD students in transportation programs at UC Davis.

A number of other forms of financial support are available to other students; click "Financial Aid".
