Student Funding Opportunities
Graduate Automotive Technology Education (GATE) Grants
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) established the Graduate Automotive Technology Education (GATE) Program to provide a new generation of engineers and scientists with knowledge and skills in advanced automotive technologies. Launched in 2005, the UC Davis Fuel Cell, Hydrogen, and Hybrid Vehicle GATE Center of Excellence is focused on research, education, industrial collaboration and outreach within automotive technology. The GATE Graduate Student Researchership (GSR's) is a prestigious award that goes to top graduate students working in the area of fuel cells, hydrogen, and hybrid technologies. The GATE GSR's are selected based on their academic and professional experience.

Friends of ITS-Davis Programs
Each year, the generous contributions of alumni and friends of ITS-Davis allow us to offer support directly to students through the programs listed below. Any student (graduate student, normally) involved in transportation-related research is eligible to apply for these funds, but we want recipients to be engaged in the ITS-Davis community on an ongoing basis. This would generally mean regular attendance at our weekly seminars and subscribing to our itsstudents@ucdavis.edu listserv (contact Annemarie Schaaf, aschaaf@ucdavis.edu to be placed on the listserv, through which you'll get announcements of the seminars and other transportation-related events), among other activities. And we hope that when you become a financially secure alum, you'll remember to pass the value on to the students following in your footsteps, by making contributions of your own to the Friends fund!

Teaching Assistantships and Graduate Student Research Assistantships
MS Plan I (Thesis) and PhD students are eligible for teaching assistantships and graduate student research (GSR) assistantships. Teaching assistantships are limited and generally offered to continuing rather than incoming students. Regarding GSR appointments, see previous note (Important Note under step 9) regarding communication with appropriate faculty.
Graduate Fellowships
Graduate fellowships, funded by industrial partners, are available for excellent students meeting the conditions of the awards. Eligible students are automatically considered for these awards.
